Bacteriology

Bacteriology is vital for understanding various microbial processes, including disease mechanisms, nutrient cycling in ecosystems, and the development of antibiotics and vaccines against bacteria that cause severe disease. Faculty in this program use a variety of biochemical, cellular, and molecular genetic approaches to investigate bacterial properties and behavior such as bacterial growth, gene expression, antibiotic resistance, and many others that contribute to bacterial pathogenesis.
