Enzymology
Enzymes create all biological molecules and are therefore that the foundation of life. Understanding enzymes is also essential for developing pharmaceuticals, improving agricultural practices, and enhancing industrial processes. Several faculty in the department study the structure, function, and kinetics of enzymes, as well as their mechanisms of action and regulation. They employ techniques such as enzyme assays, spectroscopy, crystallography, microscopy, and molecular modeling to analyze enzyme behavior and interactions.
